  • Track your travels with the Visited travel app

Last Updated: 9 October 2023

As someone who often blogs about travel, I'm not used to using apps on my smartphone apart from Google Maps, online banking for my business and WhatsApp. But when Anna contacted me to test her travel app, I took the time to install it and familiarise myself with it. And against all odds, I found myself having a lot of fun with it. I'll tell you what it's all about and why the Visited travel app is essential for budding travellers with destination dreams in their heads!

Visited Travel App: A Guide to Mapping Your Travels

Set up your countries/cities lists

  1. 1
Download the Countries Visited app from the App Store or Google Play Store.
  2. 2
Upon launching the app, you will be prompted to input your country of residence.
  3. 3
Subsequently, you'll be asked to select the countries you have already travelled to. Thanks to the search functionality, swiftly adding the countries you've visited becomes a breeze.
  4. 4
Afterwards, switch to the map view to behold your personalised travel map. The countries are colour-coded in one of the following ways:
  • Yellow: Your current place of residence
  • Blue: Countries you've visited
  • Red: Countries you aspire to visit
  • Grey: Countries you haven't designated yet

To mark a country you wish to visit, tap on the country and then select the "Want" button.

➡️ Additionally, you can click on "About" to label specific regions, states, or cities (premium features), access information about the country's population, size, and cities, and add your own personal notes about it.

Should you use the Pro version?

The Visited travel app provides users with two options: a free version and a pro version.

In the free version, you'll have access to the basic country map, your travel progress, as well as some inspiration and lists features, although there are certain limitations.

Opting for the pro version of the app offers an enhanced experience by removing advertisements and granting you unlimited, lifetime access to all its features. These include:

  • Unlocking regions
  • Unlocking cities
  • Access to a wider selection of travel inspiration photos for swiping

Pro Version: Inspiring sections

The pro version unlocks some exciting premium features, such as the following sections:

The Lists section

Travel encompasses far more than simply marking off countries on a checklist. Can you genuinely claim to have truly explored France without laying eyes on the Pont du Gard or Mont-Saint-Michel? Is a visit to Paris complete without even catching a glimpse of the Louvre or the Eiffel Tower? While these destinations may seem touristy, they've earned their iconic status for a compelling reason.

The Visited travel app's "Lists" feature, conveniently located at the app's bottom, offers a variety of lists, including:

  • Capitals of the World
  • Wonders of the World
  • Culinary Experiences
  • Cruise Ports
  • Art Museums
  • Ancient Sites
  • Churches
  • Palaces
  • Luxury Destinations
  • Greek/Roman Ruins
  • Shopping Destinations
  • Bridges
  • Castles
  • and so on…

You have the option to tick off the places you've already visited from each list and track your completion percentage. It's an enjoyable method to find inspiration for future trips.

I absorbed the process, dedicating an hour to choosing the locations I've explored or wish to explore.

When you indicate your interest in destinations you plan to visit, the app generates a curated list of places for each country. Here's the list I created for France:

The Inspiration section

Below the Lists section, there's another one labelled "Inspiration". When you select this option, you'll encounter a screen reminiscent of Tinder.

It displays the name of a location a corresponding photo, and presents you with two buttons: "Want" and "Been." Tapping on these buttons also marks these destinations on your primary map.

Once again, it's easy to get inspired by the magnificent destinations selected by the Visited travel app.
