About the song

The song is described by Bernard Cousin as a 'classic of the 19th century urban children's repertoire'.

A cumulative song

Mon âne is a cumulative song. Like "Alouette", it starts with a simple verse structure modified by progressive addition so that each verse is longer than the verse before.

Therefore, Mon âne is a nursery rhyme to develop memory.

With each verse, a new accessory is added for the donkey while all the others are repeated. By playing in groups, you can add gestures and objects.

Madame lui fit faire

Et des souliers lilas, la, la,
Et des souliers lilas.

Couplet 2

Mon âne, mon âne
A bien mal aux oreilles
Madame lui fit faire

Une paire de boucles d’oreilles
Une paire de boucles d'oreilles
Un bonnet pour sa fête
Et des souliers lilas, la, la,
Et des souliers lilas.

Couplet 3

Mon âne, mon âne

A bien mal à ses yeux

Et des souliers lilas.
