My review of the FlexiSpot EHD5 Retro Desk is now live! And what a great desk this is. I already had a very good experience with another product from FlexiSpot (read my review here) but what I'm about to review for you really impressed me... and my friends/family members. FlexiSpot has gone the extra mile to offer an enhanced and top-quality retro-looking desk that fits perfectly in our lounge. Let's have a closer look!

Receiving and assembling the desk

The parts are packaged separately, so I received one boxes by mail.

The desk shipped quickly, and - as usual with FlexiSpot's products - packaging was very high quality. Some parts were pre-assembled already, so it was easy to assemble.

When I saw the large cardboard box waiting for me in the hallway, I thought it would take me an hour or two to assemble the desk. I've become an expert at building Ikea-type furniture, but I must admit that I had neither the time nor the inclination to become a temporary handyman on this day...

Well, my first surprise was to learn how easy it was to assemble the desk.

The assembly was straightforward, taking about 20 minutes to put together.

It came with two pre-assembled parts (the desktop and the desk frame and two desk feet).

I did it on my own but let me say that the desk is pretty heavy, so you might want to use a helper to turn/move the desks around.

Anyway, if you are still puzzled when assembling it, refer to this useful installation guide:

With its vintage aesthetic, the EHD5 retro desk seamlessly complements any decor, whether it's warm or cool in tone.

When choosing the desk, I understood from FlexiSpot that the EHD5 retro desk was versatile and sophisticated and would bring "serenity and refinement to your space". I wanted to find out… and everyone who visited us (family or friends) spotted the desk before gasping in wonder!

A "Retro" Desk

The sophisticated workstation seamlessly blends classic colonial furniture design with modern upgrades, making it the perfect choice for a chic and comfortable home office space.

Crafted from solid wood and walnut veneer, the EHD5 retro desk boasts a timeless and elegant appearance that can easily complement any luxurious bedroom, office, or study (personally, we placed it in our lounge). Polished metal drawer knobs provide an extra touch of distinction to the perfectly finished piece.

What is 'colonial furniture'?

Colonial furniture is a style of furniture that originated in the American colonies during the 17th and 18th centuries. It is characterized by its simple, solid, and sturdy construction, typically made from natural materials such as wood, leather, and cane. Many pieces are hand-crafted with intricate carvings and inlay and often feature a dark, rich finish. Popular pieces of colonial furniture include sideboards, armoires, desks, chairs, tables, and chests.

The controls

What sets the EHD5 retro desk apart from traditional height-adjustable desks is its three built-in USB ports, making it incredibly convenient to use electronic devices and simplifying your daily life or work. Our 9-year-old daughter really likes this feature and has decided to charge her iPad from there!

The integrated control panel also features up and down movement and three USB ports (2 xType-A, 1x Type-C - up to 2.4 A)

Anti-collusion function

Now, like a child learning to play with a new toy, I wanted to know how high it could go.
And?
125 cm / 49.2 in

And the best of it is that I can adjust it for my height and my daughter’s and programme both presets.

The embedded drawer

The desk's drawer offers additional storage space for your work or study essentials. You can store important documents or items in the drawer for easy access, which keeps your desk surface clutter-free.

The load capacity is approximately 2.3 kg, so there is room for a laptop and its accessories. The drawer size is 55*28*6,5cm.

The best standing desk

Creating content while sitting for hours in front of my computer makes me tired and achy. That's why the FlexiSpot All-in-One Standing Desk is perfect for me, who spent hours in a sitting position.

I liked, in particular, the ability to automatically lower and raise the table. Indeed, the desk makes a great feature for my back, neck and overall posture.

Using the EDH5 Retro Desk

Here's some personal tips about using the EDH5 Retro Desk:

  • Ensure there is nothing in the way when using the height adjustment mechanism. Even though it is true that the great anti-collision function does work (I checked it personally when I wanted to adjust the height and a power adapter plugged into the socket in the wall was in the way! The desk simply stopped moving upwards)
  • If you are using a cable to connect your computer or a lamp, make sure you have enough length before changing the desk's height.
  • Don't forget you can use the drawer. It's very convenient to store home office supplies and leave the table without a mess.
  • Make sure you don't exceed the weight capacity of 40 kg… although it's unlikely a computer with accessories / lamp / plant will weigh that much!
  • Reading this page from the US? Look for the code name Theodore UD1B!

These are obvious tips, but they come in handy for the forgetful like me!

I hope this article will help you get an idea about the product.
